Look for Block Island Orbs This Winter
Though there are plenty of things to do on Block Island – including relaxing and unwinding to your fullest at our lodging on Block Island – one of our favorites is looking for Block Island orbs. Block Island orbs, part of The Glass Float Project, can be found throughout the year. Winter, though, is one of the best seasons to find them, as it’s a little easier to see them without the normal foliage of the rest of the year.
Searching for these popular Block Island orbs is a modern-day treasure hunt. Starting in June and at intervals throughout the year, 550 Block Island orbs, all made by local artist Eben Horten, are hidden around Block Island for locals and visitors to find. Each of the Block Island orbs is about the size of an orange, and they are dated and stamped. Most of the floats are clear, but this year (2023), there are 23 unique colored Block Island orbs.
These Block Island orbs are hidden along beaches and greenway trails, always above the high tide mark but never in the dunes or up the side of the bluffs. Not only is it a fun adventure to search for the Block Island Orbs while you’re here, but they offer a wonderful keepsake of your time spent at our lodging on Block Island, too!
Though there are far more things to do on Block Island this winter, above all else we encourage you to relax, unwind, and appreciate the view at our lodging on Block Island. It is, after all, one of the many reasons we’re considered the best places to stay on Block Island. Book your room with us today!
